Elizabeth, a beautiful princess, lives in a castle and wears fancy clothes. Just when she is about to marry Prince Ronald, a dragon smashes her castle, burns her clothes with his fiery breath, and prince-naps her dear Ronald. Undaunted and presumably unclad, she dons a large paper bag and sets off to find the dragon and her cherished prince. Once she's tracked down the rascally reptile, she flatters him into performing all sorts of dragonly stunts that eventually exhaust him, allowing her to rescue Prince Ronald. But what does Prince Not-So-Charming say when he sees her? "You smell like ashes, your hair is all tangled and you are wearing a dirty old paper bag. Come back when you are dressed like a real princess." (At least he has the courtesy not to mention that the princess's crown resembles a dying sea anemone.) In any case, let's just say that Princess Elizabeth and Prince Ronald do not, under any circumstances, live happily ever after. About the Author
Robert Munsch was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He studied to be a Jesuit priest, but decided to work with children instead. He taught in a variety of nursery schools and daycare centers while he earned an M.A. in Early Childhood Education. In 1975, Munsch and his wife, Ann, moved to Guelph, Ontario. The Munschs have three children: Julie, Andrew and Tyya (see them all in Something Good!).
Michael Martchenko has illustrated over 30 books for children and has exhibited his work throughout North America. He has won numerous awards for design and illustration. He lives with his wife, Patricia, in Toronto.

Tiny size!

I love this story and read it as a child. I ordered it for Christmas for my girls and was so disappointed when it arrived. It is not a regular sized book like I had as a girl, but a tiny book that is the size of my palm. Looking over the description, I can see that if you click the "read more" link at the bottom, it does say that this is a mini book, but I really think it should be stated clearly in the page title.

BUYER BEWARE - Tiny Copy! 3x3!!

This review is of the product not the story. What this seller is offering for sale is not a normal sized children's book but a 3"x3" paper reprint. It's completely useless. You can't find the dimensions because they are buried in the fine print of the product details - along with the copyright date - and NOWHERE in the actual product DESCRIPTION is the size mentioned. This is a total scam. I absolutely love the story and bought it for a little girl's birthday, and despite size I wrapped it up with the 10 other books, but she immediately called it a "baby book" and gave it to her doll. She took to the full size books immediately, but this because of its size didn't even register as a book for her. The seller needs to advertise this book ACURATELY.

Amazing book!!!

I first heard this book read during "A story for all ages" at my church. I fell in love with the book immediately
So many stories and fairy tales teach young girls to wait for their prince and that true love is the ultimate goal. This book instills a sense of much needed self respect in girls and I think the moral is one that sticks with any young girl far into her teen years and even early adulthood.
She doesn't need to chase after her prince, nor does she have to stay with someone who doesn't appreciate her. Rather in ball gowns, or paper bags, she is a princess
