An Interesting View of a Crucial Time in Medicine

While Vivien Thomas' version of events has a different perspective than some of Dr. Blalock's colleagues on the service, Thomas is able to show the nuts and bolts of what it was like doing research during such a crucial period. It's clear that Dr. Blalock got much done during this period, it's also clear how valuable it was to have someone in the lab that was innovative and helped advance the use of surgical techniques. Reading different versions of these events sometimes makes it clear that there is disagreement on exactly who was responsible for exactly what, what matters is what they all achieved. A very engaging telling of events if you have an interest in medicine.

I loved this book for the information it gave delivering the impact of the research he and Dr. Alfred Blalock did and how their research helped save lives during World War II.
